the idea is that it becomes your iPhone's screen on the radio, not just mirroring it or working with it.

Is it really worth spending all that money when I can just get another touchscreen with IPod plug in abilities for half that price?

I had it on my 2011 Yukon with the Pioneer AVIC-8000NEX. It's really awesome. When you open Maps on your iPhone it opens it on the nav unit. It also opens on your phone if you open it on the nav unit. It's extremely fast and is also a capacitive multi touch screen with pinch to zoom etc. when you get another touch screen it may mirror your phone but you can't actually use the touch screen capabilities you'd have to still use your phone to control anything.

the one i saw also had a dedicated Siri button, so you didn't need to fumble with your phone etc. i also saw CarPlay with ios 8.3 update now doesn't require the phone to be plugged in via a cord. not sure if existing models can take advantage of that or not.

Apple CarPlay has a standard home button just like on the iPhone. You can hold it down to activate Siri or just press the voice activation button on steering wheel.

With the radio and installation parts it ends up coming out to almost $800. I could get another touchscreen without CarPlay for $400. Which would be better? I don't really need navigation, I mainly just want to be able to change my music from the radio so I don't have to look at my phone.

in reality, if you don't think you'll use the maps or anything like that, you'd be better off saving your money and getting a HU that does exactly what you will utilize

Any updates on Carplay for Tahoes/Yukons for 2016? I saw today that they are integrating the system in the new 2016 Cruze, but nothing on the 2016 Yukons and Tahoes. But possibly the Escalade. How can they give this functionality to an economy car but not the SUVs that are priced through the roof?
