Received the parts a couple of days ago and finally found time to begin the repairs. I think the hardest part of the whole process was the mirror removal and reinstall. The rest of the steps went fine other than my confusion over which parts went where. Watched the video @Doubeleive posted and figured out what I did wrong. After several take apart/put togethers everything is now working. I choose to go with the new motor and gear figuring the worst part of the process would be dismantling the mirror itself. With lots of TLC everything went better than expected. No broken or missing parts! Thanks again to @Doubelieve for his posting with both videos and links to the parts. Might just drive over to the Dealer and show them my now working "worn out" mirrors. I will say after going through the process on both mirrors I understand why the dealers no not want to even tackle this repair. Very slow and labor intensive when you are working with 15+ year old plastic parts that have been in the Florida sun for many years.
it gets easier if you do end up having to do it again, for instance I repaired the passenger side, then ended up breaking the mirror "shell" against another vehicle so I had no choice but to repeat the process when the replacement mirror failed as well. Then the drivers side failed so had to do it again.....
in between that I had the covers painted.............
o'well they work and it didn't cost me a arm and a leg
