I'm considering adding some basic Hella amber fog lights to my 2003 Yukon XL. (I would like to replace the missing factory fogs with amber fogs but I have not been able to find any that have good reviews)

So here are 4 possibilities... The 2 pics with the lights up higher I would cut out matching recess holes in the grille itself and mount the lights to a custom bracket that would bolt to a couple of existing bolts behind the grille. The lower 2 would need to mount to the top of the bumper - method TBD.

I'm going for a more utilitarian look rather than a slick bling look...

I'm curious to hear opinions.

I think the ones recessed into the grille will look more "factory" or at least more official Police/Swat/Rescue/Fire

Location
Redneck central, Aka Houston

Use the OEM location and get the Blazer style projector driving lights. then remove or mod the cut off shield to get more vertical light.
Then run 55 or 35watt 3k hids with a retrofit source relay kit.

Get the 3m yellow film to layover factory fogs as an option

Yea clear lens with 3000k Hid will be best output and cleaner looking without the amber imo. But hey some people like or don't mind the amber look, so I say 2nd pic looks best to me. The square style belongs on old body styles like a k5 Or cheyanne/c10

These guys?

1. I want some true fog lights

2. I'm generally not a fan of projector and/or HID lights - for both their impact to oncoming drivers and their color. I'm not a fan of LEDs for these same reasons (The current model Cadillac lights being a perfect example of what I really dislike (as an oncoming driver).

I AM thinking of a set of driving lights in addition to amber fogs. I thought that maybe I should use the factory location for some smaller sized fogs and use the upper/grille location for some driving lights.

Yes, I like amber for fogs - from a functional point of view.

This is about function, not aesthetics - although I want to like the way it looks too.

I'd be happy if I could find a good set of aftermarket or a good used set of factory lights for the stock location.

Well it appears that Hella 550 rectangular amber fogs (I have a pair here already) will fit pretty well in the stock location at the bottom of the bumper. Once it warms up a bit I'm going to give that a go.

I also have a set of clear Hella round fogs and a set of clear Hella round Low Beam lights that I might mock up in the grille location.

For now I'll be mounting some small oblong (clear) Hella fogs in the slots to the left and right of my license plate. They COULD go down in the stock fog location but I think they will be better protected up in that slot - and they should be low enough to work as fogs should...
