Back chrome trim falling off

Just noticed the chrome trim piece on the back hatch is falling off in one side. How is this attached? Mechanically? Adhesive? Any advice on reattaching it?

That looks like aftermarket stuck on over the original painted trim piece. It looks like you can even see the double sided tape in the second pic. Try carefully pulling it off further you'll have to do that anyway to reattach it and if something else is holding it in it'll be obvious.

Thanks! Just got it last month. Didn’t know it wasn’t stock.

Sure enough! I peeled it off and it was stuck on with VHB type tape. It looks like the previous owner had it come off on that side before, as there was another couple double stick tapes that were placed after the fact, but those failed. I was able to get all of the tape off of the hatch with a plastic scraper and lots of WD-40 and now I am thinking of just leaving it off and going with stock as I think it might look better.
