That sucks. You may want to try to some Lucas Oil to get by for a little longer. Depending on how much metal was in there.

i realize this thread is very old but does anyone know how much this repair would cost? and if its a possible driveway DIY job?

that noise flat out pisses me off every single time im in the car. i find myself actually speeding in order to get out of the mph range in which its present. dont want to continue doing this. need a fix.

Glad this thread was up near the top, this sounds like the same problem I am having with my truck! I didn't think it would cost that much to replace but I guess now is a good time to upgrade to 4.10's or 4.56 gears while in there.

I'll be doing my front bearings this week. I'll post back whether or not this fixed my problem; it should.

Had a local drivetrain shop do a rebuild of the front diff and now it is noise free! $880 later for parts and labor but I no longer have any noise in that 30-40mph range. It also came with a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty.
