You're very fortunate that it didn't end up coming through the windshield. Their kicking and thrashing are what injures, if not kills, the driver and/or passenger. The hooves and antlers are like daggers and when they start thrashing about it's like a buzz saw. Had a friend that was permanently disabled because he hit a deer and it came up over the hood and through the windshield. It cut him up pretty bad and the antler punctured his noggin several times before it finally died. It took almost an hour just to get the deer out and off of him. But that's the chance you take when your driving at night in Woodstown, N.J. during the winter. If you came out unscathed then you are very fortunate. Vehicles can always be repaired or replaced...that's if your insurance company covers it.

Yeah you were super lucky if you hit it at 55. A smaller vehicle wouldn’t have protected you that much and probably would have been a total.
