Is there band in the tranny that effects the reverse? The guy I got my truck from told me the reason it won't engage in reverse is because of some kind of band that's in there. Haven't had it fixed yet, just wanna know if was pullin my chain.

Reverse is controlled by the same input drum that controls 2nd gear. Chances are that the tranny needs a rebuild.

The band is applied for 2 and 4 ... there is a reverse clutch but no band.

I'm with Rob, probably needs a rebuild.

unknown at this time.
“lo-reverse” clutches are worn out, fluid leak in the reverse apply circuit, or broken sunshell.. May also have worn boost valve.

It is possible to remedy a fluid problem by removing the checkball from its cage in the case in the rear of the Transmission may help (must remove valvebody), or adding a high-viscosity additive such as Lucas Transmissionmission additive or other seal restorer product.

If not a fluid problem go for the teardown.
