I'm betting its just a decorative cover... It may be loose and rattling around and that's the noise your hearing. As far as sub cutting in an out maybe it's touching the terminals or something... That's why I want a pic so I can see its purpose. Unless the whole magnet is attached to that and it's coming off as well.
