So I just wanted to see everyones opinion is on BG products. I read up on them just a lil bit and remember seeing something on here about them and they seem to be a bit better than the stuff from the local autozone, etc. But I thought I would see what you all thought of them before I went and bought some of their products.

I was thinking of getting the BG208 or 44k and the BG105 quick clean. One for the gas tank and one for the oil. I am due up for an oil change in the next 500 miles or so so I figured that it wouldn't hurt. Your thoughts or suggestions?

The BG product will be better than the products off the shelf at Auto Zone or any other retail store. Most of the Chemical Services sold at dealers are more of a "Commercial Grade" with higher concentrations of the product doing the work and less product that is for the most part a delivery agent.

I think it's good to occasionally put in a fuel product that gos through the tank but for a full fuel service cleaning you need to have other tools to assist in cleaning the throttle body and fuel rails.

I'm not a believer in using oil additives or products that supposedly enhance the oil. If you are using a good quality properly formulated oil you won't have a problem to begin with. If you bought a used vehicle with a questionable oil change history then you may want to run a cleaner through to help remove any sludge or deposits that have accumulated over time. Just running a high quality synthetic oil such as Mobil 1 or Valvoline Syn Pwr will also help in the cleaning process as well as offer excellent protection.

Most dealer in my area offer VPS (Valvoline Professional Service), MOC, BG and a couple dealers have Pro Tec but they are slowly losing sales in this area.

Yea BG is great stuff if you have the equipment to use it. At home I just use the 3m fuel system tune up kit. It retails for about 65 but you can get it off amazon for 36 with free shipping. I am sure that it prob is not as good as BG but it is still good stuff.

You can buy BG44 in a can......you don't need equipment to use it at home.

I figured the two that I mentioned didn't need any extra equipment, but you do need something extra for the throttle body correct? I'm not trying to do a complete overhaul and get it to brand new again, just to clean it up a bit and give it some more pep.

Yea you can but the shop I used to work had the BG VIA™ Vehicle Injection Apparatus to put it directly into the fuel rail. I think they used bg44k but that was 10 yrs ago. I guess with the apparatus it's just more concentrated.

So I just talked to my mechanic and he highly recommended bg products, but he said I was able to do the throttle body at home. Why couldn't I do it myself? What tools would I need? He told me to use a stiff toothbrush and clean the it that way. He also said that I shouldn't use the oil additive. (He said GM doesn't recommend it) Any reason why and what are your thoughts on the oil additive. The oil I use is mobil 1.

So, my point of all this is what do you recommend I do. I would love to try this myself and am willing to buy tools to do it, I just want to see what your thoughts are on me tackling this myself.

My reason for doing this is to see if this will pep up my tahoe a bit. It seems sluggish and has a slow throttle response.
