i say leave it,
it will look fine when the brakes lights are off, post up a pic with them off, the shadow of the lift gate should conceal it.
and if you are driving away from the sun, the sun can bleach out your tinted brake lights, and make them hard to see.
i followed a truck with blacked out tails a few blocks other day, and i had to pay attention to keep from tapping him.
we were in traffic in Charlotte, and had a 3 car pile up behind me, i keep a 3 ball hitch in my rear, and the guy got a REAL good look at it, his eyes were HUGE.
i would rather have the line of fire, than get rearended by somebody texting, eating, playing with their iPod...and oh, yeah....driving....all at the same time.
