hi All, I blew the engine in my 99 SLE 4dr Yukon

I have had it just over 2 years, 126,000 miles.

based on the condition, it's totally worth fixing.

opinions on engines? I was thinking of buying a crate motor direct from GM, it's about $2400. other rebuilds are in the $1800 range. this in mainly a 2nd "pleasure vehicle" for me for camping, hauling a boat, DJ equipment, etc

once I get the engine fixed up, I want to put a lift and some larger tires on it.
is it worth all that on a 4 door??

opinions...???

BTW- one of the coolant hoses blew off and it over heated. I pulled the oil pan and there was some metal in it, so I really *don't* want to mess with head gaskets/head resurfacing. I priced all that out and I would really prefer a new-rebuilt motor as I am the 2nd owner and the original owner put a lot of customizations on it (vent visors, custom floor mats, roof rack, trailer package, etc)

It really depends on how much you are willing to spend on it man and how much it means to you. Personally, as soon as my engine blows Im doing some major engine upgrades to get some large hp and torque numbers from it. I would probably get it fixed

fix it, if the money allows. A nice crate motor is a great option and there are a few optins depending on budget.

I had mine rebuilt with new heads for about $2800+ but added some misc. parts while I was there. I wasnt trying to make a lot of hp but just a "good" running sbc.

Man, that's pretty funny that rebuilt motors cost so much up there. We can get them here in Houston for $1100 all day long.

Is that installed with new water pump & distriobor with shaft? I also forgot I put a new crank in also. Mine is new top to bottom with a few small extras!

I like the GM crate motor option, then you know you got a new motor which will last and gives you peace of mind. with the cost of a rebuild I would go new.

I also suggest the GM crate motor. I had one installed about 40,000kms(24 854 miles) ago. I've never regretted it. Well maybe, only that I didn't get a 383 for $1000 more. In my mind the price difference from a 350 to 383 is peanuts in the grand scheme of buying a new motor. In for a penny, in for a pound, eh?

Unfortunately I didn't join this forum until two months after I had the new motor installed, and didn't even know about the 383. HAHA. Ya, I still have lots to learn.

At least you have the option to buy the upgraded motor from GM ahead of time.
