03 Yukon XL SLT autoride, I have had the truck a few years now and to this day the blower motor (fan) overide does not work. Bigggest problem is here in Northern Illinois its a pain to wait for the heat (or air) to kick on. For instance I fire the truck up when its 25 degrees out and it will not activate the fan for a good 15 to 20 minutes.
Even it if starts blowing on the way to the store it will not turn back on when I come out to head home even if the temp. gauge is already at operating temp. So the windshield fogs up and I can't even turn the fan up manually to blow cold or semi-warm air out so I can see down the road. I have had to pull over a few times and wait for the blower to kick on. Should this vehicle allow me to operate the blower at any given time if wanted and if so whats the first thing I should look at?

My GMC dealer near me will not tell me if it should even blow or not with out hooking it up for $85, really they can't tell me if it should work or not? This is the exact same during the summer with the air conditioning, it won't blow anything until its damn ready! The rear blower operates just fine manually or on auto.

Thanks for any support, Ben

It actually sounds like you may have a loose connector at the blower/fan under the dash. You should be able to use the defrost , etc regardless of temperature.

Wow, that dealership is f'n stupid. And the fact that they even have to look it up makes them idiots as well!
Ok, back to the subject-
Your heat/ac should work when you need it to regardless of temp. Sounds like it's a control module problem(maybe bcm). I'm not familiar with this specific problem so I can't help you much, sorry. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in. Good luck.

I have actually heard of this happening, but only if it has the digital auto climate control. Which panel do you have, the manual (with two up and down sliders) or the automatic one(with a digital LCD screen) ?

its the digital with automatic climate. Once the blower actually decides to turn on you can then use the fan speed button to turn it up and down. AND....if you try using the fan speed control before the blower ever starts blowing it will light up the digital fan display bars and show that its on. Its like the blower WILL NOT activate until it senses a heat (or cool in summer).

I have also heard of issues with those units, but not sure if that is your issue or not. I would have to guess that it is since you say it works or doesn't work according to the temperature.

I've run into the problem of my blower not adjusting speed a few weeks ago. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the control module. That worked for a week and half and then stopped working again. They looked further and there was a bad ground going to the resistor which caused the 2 wires going to the resistor to be "hot". That worked for a couple weeks and just yesterday the blower speed wouldn't adjust according to the control again.

Finley in Janesville. I figured I would need a new control unit or a new blower but I have yet to find any answers.
