First I hace ever heard of loosing an engine. Its all under the poswer train warranty anyways, but you could use it as a good excuse to drop an LS7 in there!

No. I have heard of LS1's & LS2's going down, some were loose cam shaft bolts coming out and cam causing havoc, rod bolts loosening up before 20k miles, etc. but you have to figure the success rate of anything isn't 100% So some are bound to break?
