Hey guys,

Noob here, bought my 2010 Tahoe LT (with out Navi - Speakers say Bose on them) about a month ago.

Right now, the bluetooth works through the audio speakers and the Mic above the driver side roof.

My question is.... is that bluetooth working through my head Unit or my Onstar? I only have Onstar as a trial for 3 Months, so would that mean I will lose that feature and not be able to use the bluetooth anymore if i dont subscribe?

I am hoping it is built into the Headunit so I wont lose it when the trial subscription runs out. I do not want to renew the subscription. If that is the case I will buy a Navigation head unit that has bluetooth. Probably a Pioneer Avic or something you guys recommend.

That brings up another question, Will the new headunit work with the mic that is already there?

Thanks for the help guys!

I have a pioneer AVIC and if you do go that route, be ready for the ****** bluetooth mic they give you. No one can ever hear me on it and it sucks... The AVIC is a great screen cosmetically and for a Music/Video UI it is GREAT. The NAV software (SUCKS btw) and the Bluetooth Mic for Phone calls are the two 'CON's' versus the MANY 'PRO's' that this screen has. Look up kenwood's top of the line screen for the best nav. I don't know of any screens with actual good bluetooth connections (Factory is as good as it is gonna get...)

Not sure on this one though I suspect that the mic is for both bt and os ... I have the previous version nav without bt so mine only does os, but my understanding is that the 10/11 model years with the new gm nav use the same mic for both bt and os. I have also heard that using that mic for an aftermarket/nongm nav unit whilst keeping its os capability requires an adaptor. Not sure what they're called but someone here will.

If I were to guess, I would say the BT is part of the onstar module. I recently got a new nav installed under warranty. I didn't loose any of the voice dialing settings I had set up. So they must be stored in the onstar module.

The bluetooth goes through the headunit and not Onstar. The phone calls you do through Onstar use your prepaid minutes and are a RIPOFF!!

yea

if your using YOUR cell phone, it's not using anything related to OnCrap.

If your using the OnStar phone, then you are using OnCrap.

I see why GM packs so little tech into these things...

ok great, that is good news!

I will not be losing the phone options when my onstar trial runs out.
I do not plan on extending my subscription, I don't really have a need for onstar.

Thanks for clearing that up guys!

On another note, There has to be a way to use the MIC in the roof lining for the aftermarket head units, since the stock head unit is using that MIC. I'm sure someone on here has already figured it out with a minor Modd.

Let us know if anyone has already done it!
