At 326,000 miles, the Denali needs two new cats (again). Last time my dad put aftermarket, thinking the car would die before then. It obviously hasn't, but we still want to save the money going aftermarket.

Without blabbing on about all our woes, we do need to be able to do this cheaply. I went and worked a car shop for a week, so I learned how to do exhaust fairly well. I can't weld, however, so I need bolt on.

I don't care about adding performance or making it louder, I have nothing special on the intake side anyway. The Magnaflow's looked promising, but I was told they aren't bolt-on. :(

Being a Benny bolt on has it's limitations. if you go to a OEM cat setup and just buy the complete Y pipe then it will be a bolt on but you will also pay a more money. just pickup 2 weld on cats and go down to your local muffler shop and have them welded on.
The choice is yours.

Am I going to spend more going with a "Y" pipe than I will with having a muffler shop install it? It's all going to come down to cost. I'd rather do it myself if I can anyway.

If you want to do it yourself, I think thats great. but limiting yourself to bolt on only items does increase the cost. you could also get two new cats, measure twice and cut once. Use a good stainless band clamp and put them in that way. most universal cats are around the $100 range. I still think your money ahead if you just buy them and run it to a muffler shop. I bet it will take them less than 30min and you won't spend that much $. also check with the muffler shop about supplying the cats and just paying them to do the job. I know you want to learn and do things on your own but unless you have the right equipment to do the job safely it makes sense to just have it done. also think of the money you will save doing all of the other stuff yourself and how it makes you feel. I'm 51 and have been ASE certified for years and I still farm out stuff I don't feel like doing. it's not I can't do it, I just don't want too!
