Used that method in the past disassembling steam valves. not always successful, even used coca-cola. I just dont want to be stranded. I would rather be prepared. Ive already replaced two brake lines due to corrosion.

coca cola sucks for the record. use something with some real acidity and cleaning power, like CLR. that is what I use to de-galvanize (and sometimes de chrome) nuts and bolts.
use a line wrench or 6 point socket and try tightening first then shocking off or hammer/airchisel for vibrations.
I'd locate a caliper, and only go buy it if I needed it.
On the other hand with a set of spares you could always do the job and then see about disassembling and Powdercoating the originals if they come off intact.
RE SS lines:
make sure you are using stress relocators to move the pivot point away from the fitting (like they use to pass DOT tests), or else those plastic brake lines you are buying will fail right at the fitting from fatigue.
they are recommended to be replaced annually or bi-annualy if you live in an area where you experience problems with corrosion.
