Brake help

I just came back from getting the "Karco" inspection so I asked them to give me a price on brakes. He comes back with 928.00 + tax for Centric premium's! Mind you the rotors are about 50 each and the pads about 38 bucks per axle! WTF is he nuts? I am driving a 2007 Yukon not a Bentley truck! smh

I got quoted $980 at the dealer for just my fronts 6 months ago...not that's a WTF!?!?
Just get hawk pads and powerslot rotors. They aren't that expensive. If you don't wanna spend that much, check out ebay...lots of options there. You really don't need to spend much especially if you are just doing average around town driving. OEM also is totally adequate for that.

I will let you know what I just did and that was Hawk PC pads for front and rear and R1Concepts slot and drilled front and rear.

I worked with Chris, who is a member on here and he's great to work with. He made sure I got my rotors in 2 days so I could change them before a trip.

I have had they on with the Hawk pads for about 5 days and they do make a difference. R1 had a deal going when I got them and I paid $280 for all 4 and like $170 for Hawk PC pads front and rear. So, all in I was at $430. A great deal and nice improvement for the cost of what some pay for just front rotors.

Looking to get something better then stock. Really like the Hawk HPS pads and Hawk rotors for the front but I hear they dont make rear rotors.

OR

Centric Power Slot rotors, with posi quiet extended wear pads.

Seems both rotors are around 115 each, pads are about the same at 65 per axle. Honestly wasnt looking to spend this much but......IDK...this is why I am asking for help.

I bought these for my 2008 Tahoe (Ebay: Item number: 290701375362). Honestly I was skeptical cuz of the price. But once installed I was impressed. They look a lot better in person and with 24" wheels you can see the nice drilled/slotted rotors. They look like the really expensive ones but waaay cheaper. They are stock sizes and the pads do not cause dust issues at all. The Tahoe also stops better IMO. Unless you are going to be racing it I don't see any reason to buy high dollar stuff. This, and even OEM, is good enough. I would buy these again in a heartbeat.

This "brake thing" has me going crazy! There are several dozen choices on top of that not one vendor is the cheapest. So everytime I look I find it cheaper somewhere else.....I never seen so many choices for a particular "replacement part" in my life!!

I would really love to know what the actual differance is in all these rotors???? SMH! Do I need to go with the same rotors front and rear? Or do I go with something better up front? IDK

For your use upgraded rotors up front and OE rears with upgraded pads all round would suffice. Also just get slotted rotors, no need for cross-drilled (they look cool though).

How quiet are the Ceramic pads?

I went with EBC Sport rotors (black, slotted) with hawk HPS pads on the front and just OE rotors and pads on the rear since the front does most of the braking anyway.
The stock fronts warp like warm butter which is why I didn't want to replace with stock on the front.
The braking was much improved and got rid of the pulsation from the warped stock units. I wasn't able to warp the EBC rotors. I think the total cost for the front was a little under $300 (rotors & pads) and was definitely worth it. I priced the stock rotors and pads and they would have cost me the same or more than the EBC/Hawk setup (and I work for a GM dealership so that's at 10% over cost)!
They didn't make any noise or produce more dust than stock units.

I have a 2008 LTZ (5.3L flex) and would like to know the part #s for OEM front and rear pads and front and rear rotors. Can anyone help me? Didn't want to start a whole new thread. Dealer quoted me some ridiculous price to do all, while the truck was in for warranty work today. Just to make sure I order the right parts.

I second the EBC Greenstuff pads. I went with them and stock rotors and have been very satisfied. I'm an aggressive driver and feel very secure they stop when I need them to. The also put out hardly any dust so won't blacken your wheels.
