OK, new guy here, i have an '06 Tahoe LT, 173K miles, and am having an issue with the brake lights.

I press on the brake pedal and the left light (drivers side) comes on bright, normal operation. The right one comes on but is not as bright as the left.

If the headlights are on when i press the brake pedal, the left light comes on bright (normal) but the left one goes out completely - no brake light, no running light, nothing.

I checked the bulbs - switched them between the two taillight sockets - same thing happens with the bulbs in either place, so i don't think it's the bulb.

I checked all the fuses - all good.

What should i check next?

Thanks in advance!

do your parking lights and turn signals work fine? if not, look at the lighting junction block near the rear wheel. typically corroded and its a cheap replacement

Thanks guys, good advice. I basically wiggled the wires and unplugged and replugged a couple of connectors and it looks like it's working properly.

Yeah, that junction box is in an odd place and was pretty corroded. If i have any more problems i'll replace it.

Thanks again!

The brake switch under the dash has points type contacts that foul up too but an easy fix if you're OK with taking it apart...
