you will get a hundred different opinions on brakes
my advice is get what you can afford and DIY only takes a little time and you can save yourself HUNDREDS of dollars
AND if you get lifetime warranty pads from a local auto parts that is a one time cost, when they wear out you take them back and get brand new ones for free
straight win-win scenario
for instance the local dealer has a "brake special" $399 PER AXLE !!!! (that does not include new rotors if needed, only turning them if they can be)
I do them myself for about $60 (not including new rotors) as usually you can get away with just a pad swap if there is no grooving
next time it will be zero cost unless I need rotors

My preference is GM OE brakes. They maintain shortest stopping distance and last a long time. We get 85K plus miles out of OE pads.
Now having said that, we did buy ACDelco Performance towing brakes for our lifted Sierra and will be putting them on very soon.
Methinks you should have a lot of wear left on the fronts at 6mm.
it is, but mostly can depend on if you know the condition of the rotors like how old they are or if they have been turned once or twice or not at all and how they feel on the surface.
if they are nice and smooth on both sides and no edge groove on the inner part then they are probably ok. but if you feel vibrations when applying the brake then they may be warped, which generally means the pad material has become fused on the rotor surface and this makes the surface of the rotor uneven.
I am a bit of a spirited driver so I notice when the pads get worn as I can feel the difference in stopping power.
I like these powerstop there made for the police vehicles but the fitments is the same and it's just a marketing thing
$181 for a set of performance rotors is hard to beat, I have had them on my 18 for 4 years and put them on the wifes 16 last year
I paired them with a set of lifetime ceramic pads from autozone
and don't worry about the rockauto fitment guide saying there for tahoe 08-20, these will fit ALL gm 1500's from 07-2020 suv's or pickups, unless you have one-off weird brakes in 07 they did

No advice on what brand to replace with TBH. On my 99 Silverado I replaced the fronts with dealership at like 120k, then the second set at 255k. The second set I bought at AAP and was like their premium whatever line. They work good, except they dust. Never had a problem with the OEM ones doing that, so if I had to do it again it would be those.
But, I would install just about any aftermarket pads instead of running worn out pads. 6 mm is getting there on wear. Your brakes aren't sqealing? They have those metal deals that will start making that annoying noise at about that amount of wear.
BTW, it's BRAKES....breaks is when something falls and shatters. Not that it matter because we all know what you mean and this ain't no spelling bee contest. Sorry.
