the brake light came on today along with "service brake system" on the DIC. the brakes feels fine sometimes but them will get spongy. i've got good pads, plenty of fluid, has anyone else had this problem? could it be the master cylinder? thanks for any help

took it to the shop and they replaced the master cylinder , flushed the system, bled all four calipers. that was 3 days ago now the light and message came back on and chimes constantly. any ideas on what the hell's wrong

Could be your ABS.
Try getting the code read, something is obviously throwing it.

Otherwise, you'll end up guessing and change 10 things and still have the same problem.... (..Cough..Cough..:nutkick:..)

thats what pissing me off, i took it to the shop so i wouldn't have to guess at what's wrong. they hooked it up to the computer and before they replaced the master cylinder I asked them if they were sure because the computer did't tell them anything.
i just unplugged the connector at the brake pressure differential switch and i guess it reset it because its not on now, but that is how the shop got it to go off the other day to, so it'll come back on soon

the ABS light doesn't come on, just the parking brake light and thr message in the DIC

LOL....Stupid question. :roflsquared: Are you sure you released the parking brake?

If YES, is the parking brake working?
Do you feel tension when you press on them?
Does it released properly?

if your brakes feel perfectly fine, i would suggest you disconnect your battery for 20-30 mins so all your sensors and electronics can reset. if that doesnt help then you need a GM scanner to read your code. snap on or any other universal scanner might not be able to get deep into your system.if the chime is bothering you, a temporary solution would be to unplug the chime from behind the parking brake under the dash. it looks like a relay but labeled CHIME.
