Just had a brake inspection on 2005 Tahoe Z71 with 70k miles. Front worn only 15% and rear 40%, the opposite of what I would have expected. I am the original owner and the Brakes have never been replaced. It's like the front calipers are not working, or is this normal for a 2005 Tahoe? I had to replace the pads every 15k on my last Tahoe. Anyone know anything that could cause the front brakes to not be wearing down (or perhaps not working)? Vehicle has always stopped well, but did have some front grabbing about 20k miles ago. Dealer found nothing wrong back then.

I just replaced what I assume to be the original pads on my 01, just passed 100,000 miles too. I dont think the first owner replaced them but I could be mistaken

My mechanic (certified GM) said that 2000-2006?? (can't remember the cutoff year) brakes seemed to be proportioned so rears go faster than fronts. He didn't know why, but he's seen pretty much all of them do that. My original rears were replaced at 110k and fronts have over 50% remaining. I don't tow much, and these were designed for towing I think. Curious what you did with your previous Tahoe that needed brake changes q15k miles. Tow alot? Drive like my leadfoot spouse?lol; pre 2000 tahoe? Our patrol cops use Tahoes, and even they don't change that often.

My OBS needs pads every 15K or so. I got some from Autozone with a lifetime warranty so I just take em back and get new ones for free.

Well I should say needed :(

My 03 yukon has 117.000 on the original brakes and they still have alot of miles left on them, mostly highway running though. I just changed the shocks although they really werent that far gone. Seems to be a good truck, it's about time I finally got one. Mike

If I remember from my 03 silverado the rear pads are thinner than the fronts. That truck also didn't put enough to the rear so the rear brakes glazed up and got bad quickly.

I assume that the suv's would be the same.
