Do you have a RWD? What Akebono pads? I wanted Akebono ProAct pads but I found out they don't make a rear pad for 4WDs. It's not in their applications guide and I can't find it anywhere online...

I did the 07 swap years ago and used R-1 concepts drilled and slotted E line rotors, My rear calipers were slowly dying so i got my second set of R-1`s when i replaced the calipers. IMG_1740.JPG

4wd

Had the napa premium pads on there but they started squealing a month after their warranty ran out LOL

Rear: AKE ACT834

Had the napa premium pads on there but they started squealing a month after their warranty ran out LOL

Front: AKE ACT1092
That's odd... The ACT834 wasn't showing up anywhere a month ago when I was looking for brakes. I looked high and low... I know it seems like operator error here but I swear, I looked, and looked, and looked. And I even mentioned it in a couple threads here that it was odd that Akebono made brakes for everything except the rear axle of the 4WD models... Good to know they do, in fact, make them.

That being said, when I couldn't find the Pro-Act brake pads and set out to find a suitable replacement. Raybestos' EHT3 Enhanced-Hybrid brakes are a newer compound that is getting excellent reports for low dust, no noise, and better stopping that Pro-Act. I have them on my rear now and will eventually put them on my front. I have no complaints.

I hope by now you have either checked your rpo codes, or gone out and looked at your calipers.

Hydrobbost IMO is one of the best things you can do. There are plenty of writeups. IF you tow it's a big improvement. It's the difference between vacuum pressure with air in the booster, to fluid which isn't going to compress. It will give you more of a controlled feel..

Aftermarket pads will almost always help. Many people like drilled and slotted rotors because its what they hear about.. just to make sure, those holes and slots are there to let gasses and heat escape from multiple brake pumps in short periods of time. They have less surface material to grab on, and when you apply a full pressure, they will take more of a distance to stop than blanks..

I have understood it best that drilled and slotted are best for a city style driving, where you need to keep hitting the brakes in traffic or stop lights through the city.. Blanks are best for country style driving, where you are only slowing down near your destination, and one of your biggest concerns would be an animal jumping out in front of you, where you would want to stop in the absolute fewest amount of feet possible and 10 unexpected feet could make a big differerence.

I only run Akebono after very good results with my German made vehicles. When I was initially looking for rear pads I ran into the same application issue. I contacted Akebono directly and was informed that ASP834 and ACT834 would indeed work for my 2005 GMC Yukon XL AWD. Not sure why no one lists them this way. I went with the supposedly better ASP834. There is no clear info anywhere about the ASP being better than the ACT for our applications. Next time I would save the money and get the ACT line.

I must say after having very good results with rear Bendix severe brake rotors I would look into matching Bendix pads.

  • My front calipers are from a 2012 Escalade and they are Akebono. No complaints from them with drilled/slotted R1 Geomet rotors and I also have hydroboost. The hydroboost and SS lines definitely improve brake feel.
