Thought I’d post the results and impressions of my recently installed Bully Dog Gas Tuner on my 01 4x4 Yukon so here are the numbers.

60 foot time 3.1 sec
0-60 time 9.7 sec
1/8 mile time 11.3 sec
1/8 mile speed 64 mph
¼ mile time 17.5 sec
¼ mile speed 69 mph

These are the numbers that the Bully Dog spit out when I ran the performance test from a dead stop. IMO, these numbers don’t seem to add up because the 1/8 mile time seems a little low considering the 1/8 mile speed but maybe I’m wrong.

Just to put things into perspective, I have a 5.3L with K&N CAI and Flowmaster muffler. No other performance mods other than the Bully Dog. My tires are 32.5” tall and I have a Warn Trans4mer grille guard with a 9,500lb winch. Needless to say, the bigger tires and extra weight hurt my performance which is why I bought the Bully Dog in the first place.

Numbers aside, I don’t know how much torque and hp I gained but I definitely gained enough to make the truck more fun to drive. I feel like I gained back a lot of what I lost to the bigger tires so I’m satisfied with results. I also now have the ability to monitor trans temp and intake temp as well as read fault codes which is nice.

How hard was it to change the shift firmness so it can jump into the next gear

Changing the shift point and firmness is easy but a bit time consuming. For the initial install, a set up wizard walks you through the installation by asking you a series of questions. You’ll have three options for shift firmness. Stock, tow or performance. After the initial install, if want to change the firmness, you have to reinstall the entire program. This isn’t a big deal but it does require pulling 5 fuses and replacing them when you’re done. This also applies to the performance settings as well as tire size and what not. In other words, you can’t change it “on the fly”.

I bought one about a month ago. Got it over some of the others because it covered not only my XL but also my 2008 express work van. I decided to try it on the van first and love it. On the newer vehicles you don't have to pull fuses so it makes reinstalling a new tune easy and only takes 2-3 mins to do the update. I'm not sure how much the engine tune does alone but the trans programs does wonders for the feel and drivability.

I did get an extra set of cables to put it in the Yukon, just haven't had time to install them yet.

I agree, being able to monitor some of the engine vitals is nice too.

Update;

Made another test run last night. I think I must have let off the throttle before I went a full ¼ mile on the last run. Anyway…

0-60 10.0 sec
1/8 mile 11.4 sec
1/8 mile speed 64 mph
¼ mile 17.4 sec
¼ mile speed 77 mph

I still don’t think this is accurate but I’m not sure what adjustments I need to make. I’ve verified that the speed readings are correct with my GPS but in order to get it right, I had to tell the Bully Dog that my tires are 1.5” smaller in diameter than they really are. I’m assuming that it calculates distance traveled based on tire circumference times the number of wheel revolutions. If this is correct, Correct tire size input must be accurate to calculate speed and distance.

Anybody out there already worked through this problem?

Thinking of buying one as well my question is I bought used can it be use again on different vehicle? I am assuming so since you can use on more than one vehicle at a time but just like to be for sure before purchase I'm looking for better gas mileage no so much on performance have you seen improvement in gas mileage?

It will recognize the vehicle when you plug it in and install the correct program. I never did put it on my Yukon, just too worried about it dooming my trans. Still using it in my Express van, went from 10 mpg to just under 13 using premium. Deffinatly worth the cost of the programmer and the few cents more per gallon.
