I was searching through some old photos, and I stumbled across these photos from 30+ years ago, when my oldest son was helping me build my deck. He was my Carpenter-in-training, or apprentice. He got an early start in his trade skills development, and I was reminded of this thread's central theme.

So.......
An opportunity has presented itself today. I had been in contact with a guy selling tires that would work on Joseph’s 97 K1500. 4 LT Load E tires mounted on rims for $300. He just did I could buy the whole truck for $700, but it has a spun cam bearing. Am I nuts for thinking about getting it as another project to either get running and sell or keep and get rid of my other kids Grand Marquis?

Here is the CL post for the tires.

Edit: Guy just said he would take $600 for everything.

That is awesome! Thanks for sharing. Reminds me of pictures my mom took of me when I was a kid helping my dad.

I really enjoy working with them. My biggest obstacle was getting past the idea that things need to be perfect and get to point that I can to let them try, fail, learn and redo something’s.

I do have a couple compressor’s and when we get to doing the bed and other body work on Joseph’s truck, I will definitely be getting a spray gun. That being said, I think it’s good to show them the various ways to do things.

Kind of like when we were doing shocks and Joseph wanted to use the impact but I made him do the first 3 with a ratchet and breaker bars. On the last one, I got out the impact and he had a much better appreciation of what it does, but he also learned that you can do a lot with simple hand tools.
That’s a great way for kids to learn the value of new versus old school.

If the body is in good to decent condition--I'd do it. Grab a jy 5.3, and you're set. Plus the boys can help and get some great knowledge. DO IT!!
