Usually if the check oil level light comes on, you've got a lot more than a quart missing. The oil pressure switch on the oil pan is located near the bottom of the pan. Sounds like a PCV valve going bad or your engine is using oil internally. How far between oil changes and are you using 'conventional oil' ? With that kind of mileage, change every 3k with conventional or every 5 with synthetic blend or full syn. Are you the original owner?

yes, sorry, i did add a little more than 1 quart. but i was just kind of rounding off. i did not add 2 full quarts. it was less than 1.5 quarts though (on both occasions). unfortunately i am not the original owner. i originally for the truck in July 2011. i had it's oil change around that time with synthetic blend 5w30. the oil change light has not come on yet, as we only use the truck for longer trips. occasionally we drive around locally. i think since we got the last oil change it has only been around 3000-3500 miles.

Mine has been burning about 1 quart every 1800-2000 miles since I bought it last summer. I run royal purple as did the previous owner. When I researched the issue I noticed that a lot of people seem to think that these engines just burn oil. At this point I am not bothered by it enough to care since I don't think there is an easy fix and there is no smoke. Just wish with royal purple didn't cost $9 a quart.

not totally sure. i haven't kept a track of the mileage. at first i just thought it was a one time thing. drove to Jersey city & on the way back i noticed the light when i stopped at a rest stop. added a quart & then it was out. i don't really drive the truck too much around town. next trip was a round trip to myrtle beach & back to baltimore. then a week later i had to take a trip to Selma, NC & back. my wife drove it yesterday & noticed the light was on.

so all i can say for sure is about 2,150 miles & i had to add a quart.

i'll have to look into that. i hope that would be it.

you have a part number? nothing came up when i searched fixed orifice pcv on ebay.
Part number is cv4000c...you can google "5.3 pcv valve" and read lots of stories of people using this simple fix on 2002 and earlier models.

ahh. i wonder if they have it for the 6.0 (what's in my truck).

if this is a normal thing, i'm not too worried about it. i just didn't know if there was a bigger problem that i should be worried about. thanks all for the info.

Sorry for the late reply but the pcv valve in the 6.0 is the spring one also I believe. I would just change it. I upgraded mine and it really smoothed out my idle. For 7 dollar's you cant go wrong!
