I have put a new alt in my tahoe a few weeks back and it is bad again, I have a dual battery set up. I think I know why but I was wondering if there is a common issue that would cause this.

What kind of alternator? Maybe you're taking more than the alternator can produce for the batteries. You should look in to getting a high output alternator since you are running dual batts.

Check the fat wires that connects your battery to your alternator, starter and frame. One of mine was burnt and causing me problems. Hacked up a set of jumper cables for the wire and ta-da, no more problems.

i have a 98 tahoe with dual red top optima batteries with a stock 105 amp alternator just buy a dual battery isolator from ebay, this is assuming your batteries are the same in size, model, and cca. but checking your stock wires and even upgrading them never hurts

Make sure you don't run your truck with two very low or dead batteries, like say from leaving your lights on overnight. The alt will put out full power to try and recharge them and will overheat/die.
What size alt are you running?
