Hi,
I am new here. I think I am interested in buying a Tahoe or Yukon and would like some advice on what models, options, and problems I should look out for. I need a vehicle to pull a 20’ enclosed tandem axle trailer with electric brakes that will weigh about 5,000 lbs. when loaded. I will probably only be towing it 500 miles a year or so and the rest of the time I will use the vehicle for a trip to a big box store every week or two. I’d like to spend about $10,000 on it. I don’t have a particularly great need for 4WD, I live in Charlotte NC and there is not much in the way of winter here but of course 4WD would be nice on the occasional snow day, taking it camping or something like that. This of course would be a second vehicle (my other car is a 2 seat sports car) and I don’t expect to put more than 5,000 miles per year on it.
Almost all Tahoes seem to have trailer hitches on them, how many different towing options were available on them? I think I would do best with the heaviest option, and easy way to tell which towing package it has?
Any particular year where improvements were made in the engine, transmission etc that makes one year better than another for my use?
Are there any particular problems to look out for on a used Tahoe? I am an engineer who work 5-10 years as a professional mechanic in the 70’s / 80’s so
I am pretty knowledgeable about checking a car over to make sure everything work. Anything special to look out for?
Any particular places I should be looking beside Autotrader, Ebay and Craig’s List?
Thanks for any help.
John
