I've had a K&N CAI for a few years now on my 5.3. It's hard to remember but I'm pretty sure I noticed a little bit better acceleration but I didn't notice any mileage difference. It also sounds awesome because it gets rid of the sound chambers from the stock intake. I've never had a check engine light either.

Most people don't notice a mpg gain as just by itself you may only gain .5 mpg maybe 1 at best. On top of that most enjoy hearing that extra growl so they tend to be a little more aggressive when accelerating. You will probably noticed better throttle response and such it's not a huge gain. A cai paired with a better flowing exhaust and other bolt ons that allow the engine to run easier will net you better mpg tho.

I used to run them, last few vehicles I just did a K&N drop in filter. However the 05 Z71 I just picked up has a spectre cold air, E Fans, and full exhaust, and got 18.2mpg at 80 on the trip home. Been getting 16 around town.

Couple of questions for ya:

Is there an easy way to tell if yours came from the factory with electric fans?

By full exhaust do you mean full dual exhaust?

I'm interested in getting some more MPGs as I'm averaging not even 14 with a small lift and 32" tires and stock exhaust.

Just check and see if they are factory part numbers on the fans.

And yes, duals from the heads back, flow masters. I usually go magnaflow but these don't sound bad.

I have been looking at CAI for a week or more now online. I am down to KN 71-3082, Volant powercore 155546 or the Corsa pn 44906. I just can't figure out which is best for sound outside the truck and not inside. Also fit and finish is important to me also. Has anyone used these models and can comment? It is going on my 2015 Yukon Denali.

Full exhaust doesn't have to be true duals. Headers, better bends larger pipe better cat and whatever you want after that

You're in the 2000-2006 section, just so you know. Probably should be asking that question in the 2015-up performance section.
