I have a tahoe 5.7 vortec I am doing a complete engine rebuild, I am thinking about putting a little thump to it when I go back together with it, I am wanting to see if theres anyone out there that has put one in and what kind of power it gave you, or any advice? Is it worth the money? Was it a noticable amount or power/torque? Give me some honest opinions! I have a cold air intake, throttle body spacer, I will be getting headers and high flow catalytic converter!

Thank you for your help!

Just going for a thumpy idle isn't what you should be going for. To get that you need big durations with high rpm pwoerband.

The LT4 Hotcam is a 525/525 lift (.492/.492 with 1.5 rockers) with a 218/228 duration. i saw a guy on here ran one and ended up switching to a little smaller grind. If you do run the hotcam I'd recommend a higher stall torque converter.

Other options are HT383 cam, I myself am in the process of doing a ZZ4 camshaft right now along with a few other goodies :)

Could always call Comp Cams and tell em what you have and what you use your vehicle for and they will steer you in the right condition

Also modifcations will need to be made to head if a higher lift cam (I think over .480) is used. Beehive springs, 787 retainers, and grind valve guides down.

Im just teying to figure out if im going to see a big change in torque or if its just going to add a little bit of torgue and sound!

Coulda caught a guy having a bad day? who knows!

I've got alot of info from fullsizechevy, seems there into performance a bit more there. Still love this forum though!

I think anything bigger than stock would be a plus, the ZZ4 I'm doing is a 208/218 or something like that. Will be running a combo of 1.6/1.5 roller tipped rockers, beehive springs, new valves (1.6" exhaust) bowl blended my ports. Spider assembly upgrade. Some machine work on heads and milled .010".

Should be interesting :)

unknown at this time.
first get rid of the tb spacer. second, asking us to recommend a new cam is like asking what shock are best. I strongly suggest you contact a cam company like comp cams or similar to discuss your needs

Lol that sounds pretty interesting, ive been very seriously thinking about a cam pretty heavily, im about to pull my motor and do a complete rebuild, just trying to see if I would get a big difference out of a cam or if it would just make the vortec breathe better, I know I cant go rediculously big due to the computer, unless I get it tuned!

Im not asking about which cam is best by anymeans everyone has their opinions I know, im just trying to figure out if its a big difference once installed, is it worth the money, things like that

I would first do the headers your planning on and get a PCM tune. Free up the exhaust.

Transmission upgrades I would def do too. Pretty cheap for shift kit and vette servo IMO

Yep!

And if it helps I did the transgo HD2 kit with vette servo. TCI is also very good. Guy in class last semester ran the TCI kit on his 05 silverado which had a 76mm turbo and he loved it.
