hey guys so I have a question someone will hopefully be able to answer....I have a 2008 yukon and love everything about it, until the 2010 models came out with the factory gm app where u can control your door locks and remote start right from your iphone! I know viper/clifford make the smart start but 2 of my friends got that thing installed it was like 500$ for the whole deal and I was in shock to find out it is the WORSTE thing ever! you push unlock and it takes 30-40 seconds for thr car the actually unlock! AWFUL! Is it possible to get the OEM GM one put on my car? if anyone knows what that would require...or cost? Let me know!

Yes you can add this function. It requires the vcim from a 2010+ vehicle and an active onstar account to do so. Replacing the vcim with a newer one will also give you bluetooth which many people on here are interested in. Good luck finding one as ive heard the price has gone up on used units since the demand has increased. Do a search on this forum and you should find more info on the vcim. Some people have had issues getting their new vcim to work with onstar but i guess i was lucky bc mine worked. Once you get one you wont be disappointed i promise.

didnt think it was possible. I know that Compustar make a great product called Drone. You can link it with your droid or iphone and unlock, lock remote start from anywhere in the world. Also sends you alerts. I am thinking of getting this myself

Thanks for the info. so just to clarify the unit that im looking for is called a vcim? Can i go to the dealer and purchase it? What did it cost you for the vcim and for the install if you dont mind? And also is the locking unlocking and remote start from your phone fast or laggy?

I have that option of my 2011 and its pretty convenient but its about as slow as SmartStart if slower. You have to bring up the app and refresh it first and that can take anywhere from 30 secs to a minute and a half. I'm loving the new gps feature though. Find it on your iphone and then send it to your vehicle. Niceness!!
