Can I pull the codes on my 98 Hoe??

Been getting the CEL lately, sometimes it will stay on for a day or two then go away, but the other day it was on and went to do a job, I parked it for ten minutes then went to move it and it back fired out through the intake right at startup...needless to say my heart stopped and my stomach started churning. My Hoe runs great other than that backfire, SOOOOOO how can I pull the codes?? Autozone only does 2000 and up vehicles, but I would rather do it myself anyway, any help??

Its obd2, they can check engine codes for almost any vehicle since 1996.

To do it yourself you have to buy a code reader.

or go to autozone, advanced auto, or O'reilly and borrow one for free.. ive gotten mine from autozone for a while im not sure why they say it wont work on a 98
