Howdy all,

I am a newbie and we are buying a coachman apex ultralite 31 foot trailer , weighing 5500 lbs dry. Our present yukon does have the HD towing package but still is only suppose to pull 7000lbs, has a GVW of 7400K. We r debating if we should buy a bigger engine like the denali or a 2500 XL. we will be hauling from Michigan to Montana ( high elevation) to Florida . Are we being foolish to thing the '08 we have now can pull this or should we get a beefed up Yukon. Oh i should mention we r going to be living in this TT and want a reliable towing machine. Love the 08 xl slt now but not sure what to do ....... ANY suggestions or help is much appreciated ! Thank you

naw engine is more then capable when towing its all about torque multiplication and suspension 5500 lbs dry so its probably pretty close to the towing capacity loaded so youd be putting to the test especially when you got to western montana
just make sure you get a equalizer hitch becuse a 31 foot prolly has a heftly tongue weight
now a 2500 suburban or yukon xl has a heavier suspension beefier tranny and its a 10 to 13k lbs towing capacity
so if yer planning on towing this size trailer often id go with a 3/4 ton burban or yukon xl

The Coachmen has a tongue weight of 620lbs, we do have the 3.73 gears. We are installing the Equalizer hitch and electric brakes too. Went to our local Chevy dealer and looked at a new Silverado 2500 hd 4x4 crew cab, but the trade difference was 30k!!! 6.2 motor and 4.10, we loved it but the pocket book is saying abort mission.
