Do not flame me over this question, it's an honest question, I have never own a Tahoe but I am thinking hard to get a Tahoe.

I have a 10 years old Pilot with 100K on it and it has been a very reliable car for me. In the past 10 years I have done nothing but just regular oil changes, air filters, batteries and brake/signal light bulbs. I might have changed the break pads but I can't remember. Lately I have been hearing noise when I turn the steering wheel. It has never been in the shop for anything else.

I am in the market of getting a new SUV. Due to the increase in family size, I have broaden my option to include a full size SUV. I narrowed down my options to 2 vehicles, Tahoe and Pilot. I understand they are not in the same category in term of size and price but I really would like your opinion on Tahoe's reliability/quality. I know not every Honda Pilot drivers has the same luck on theirs but would I be able to expect the same level of reliabiilty/quality on a Tahoe, would I be able to expect a problem-free 10 year from a Tahoe?

Thansk.

Hit and miss much like every other car brand. When I had my 07 Yukon and I have very little issues in the 3x,*** miles I owned it (it had around 70k I think when I traded it in) but others had constant issues.

I have one of each. I am leasing a 2014 Pilot and own my 2011 SSV ta.hoe. Both vehicles are entirely different SUV's. The pilot is mechanically sound. Fit and finish is pretty darn top notch. Only complaint is that the paint will chip and scratch if some penguin in the South Pole sneezes. The front bumper is worthless. I leaned on mine and put a huge dent in the corner. Luckily I was able to heat it up with a hair dryer and pop it out with a dowel rod.
Towing capacity is about 4500lbs, which is a lot less than a Tahoe. However, it did pull my military 3/4 ton trailer with a medium load with no problem. The 4 wheel drive on the Pilot is automatic. It just kicks on whenever the front wheels slip. Thus...it is primarily a front wheel drive SUV. My wife drives it mostly. She doesn't even have to think about it engaging 4wd. The thrid row seat is one of the roomiest out there.

A Pilot is not a bad choice. It will do quite well in the snow. I wouldn't take it stump jumping though.
Long term reliability is good with them. Like all vehicles though, they have quirks that are unique to them, just like the Tahoe's.
Fuel economy is definitely better around town. Loaded down on the highway though it's only somewhat better than the Tahoe.

The obvious difference is that the Tahoe is bigger, roomier and has more towing capacity.

My Tahoe just turned 130k. Coming from Sheriff's duty I would say that th maintenance they did to it was fairly minimal, at best. Granted I spent some time and money reversing their neglect but now the thing runs like it just rolled off the lot.

Bottom line, the Tahoe and Pilot are both well made vehicles. The Tahoe is definitely easier to work on though.

I think just about all newer vehicles have their own quirks, but for the most the quality has gotten a lot better in the past 10-15 years with just about every brand. Its all about maintaining them properly. Its commonplace to see vehicles with 250 k on them nowadays, but they were maintained. My 07 suburban had 150 k on it when I traded it in and that truck drove just as well as the 2011 serra I had from new to 30 k. If it hadn't had a bad rust issue I'd still have the suburban

my suburban has 225k miles on it and the only thing ive got wrong with it is one of the manifold bolts snapped off but appearently that is a common issue

There is a reason the tahoe/yukon is the leader in the segment. Class leading Powertrain, reliability, and best looking. Doubt you will remember you had a Honda after 2 months of ownership.

yes best looking the only thing that sucks about that is GM is notorious for butchering vehicles the trucks all looked good the way they were tahoes looked good till 2006
then GM had to go start putting that avalanche front end on the trucks and stuff
then they came out with that 2007 tahoe design wich was ehh and now they made it worse with the 2015 and 2016 model
GM shouldave done like ford did with the f150 they sold a heritage model
they shouldav kept making the GMT800 as a heritage model
