Carbyte is a plug and play that eliminates auto stop and keeps your engine running V8 all the time and deactivates the DFM. All for $149!
Sounds too good to be true and you know what they say about that!

Anyway, I purchased a Carbyte off Amazon for $149 and it truly is plug and play. Plugs right into the OBD port with no problem and I downloaded the free app on my phone. Everything went smoothly and just as advertised - the auto stop is eliminated even though the light on the dash switch is still on. With out the Carbyte I would have to push the switch and the light would go off. Then the auto stop was deactivated. With the Carbyte plugged in you never have to push the button. Also the DFM is disabled and the engine runs on all 8 cylinders all the time. I have only had this for a week but so far the auto stop is gone and I think engine is full time V8 at least that’s what the display and phone app tells me. No engine issues or warning lights or any codes have come up.

According to the phone app the full time V8 is activated and auto stop eliminated. At first I thought you needed to connect to the phone app but even if the phone app is disconnected the Carbyte module still works and the display on the unit will indicate if it is connected. I am pretty sure the DFM is disabled as most of my driving is on smooth highways that have 45-50 mph speed limits and my mog on these roads is noticeably less from the limited time I have been driving with this. I will follow up with some comparison numbers. Engine seems maybe smoother but I never could really feel the DFM kick in even with audio off and paying attention I really couldn’t feel anything different.
Some say you need to hit 40 mph before the Carbyte is enabled but I haven’t had the auto stop go on even at lower speeds.

Now for the dilemma! When the Carbyte module is plugged in my power assist steps don’t work when door opens or closes. The steps are aftermarket AMP Research and they are amazing! I love them and they are nicer and faster than the OEM power assist steps.

When removing Carbyte and plugging the module back in everything works fine. If the Carbyte is plugged in the steps work perfectly with the manual switch on dash but don’t respond automatically to door open or close.

So now I can enjoy not pushing the button for auto stop but I have to push button to activate the power steps. Uggh!
Before Carbyte I had to push button to eliminate auto stop but my power steps worked automatically! Uggh!
Almost back to square one!

I contacted Carbyte and they got back to me with in a day and are attempting to troubleshoot this for me. I have to say they are pretty responsive but not sure if they can remedy this and get the steps to work automatically unless they have an adapter that integrates with the OBD and the Carbyte.

I will update as this develops…..
So far for the ease of install, eliminating auto stop and running full time V8 it does all that for $149 and besides the power step issue it definitely does what it claims on my 2024 6.2l.

I think it depends on the plug in the OBD port. I bought truck new and don’t recall if the OBD port was plugged or just a cover/cap. The Amp Research connection is wired into the OBD plug in my truck.

My guess is that it should if nothing else is plugged into the OBD.

This is more a question for the Amp Research folks, not likely a Carbyte issue. The Amp Research much monitoring the OBDII port for some sort of wake up if you go to open the door?

Do the steps deploy properly if you open the door after driving?

The other option is the Range DFM disabler that goes inline with the ECU, pretty simple and easy install. I have had a Range device on my 2024 for about 9 months so far without problems.

The power steps work normally without the Carbyte plugged into the OBD port.
Even with Carbyte plugged in the steps work manually with the switch on the dash.

Since I bought this Tahoe new but the dealer had the Amp Research installed, I don’t know what is plugged into the OBD port with factory power steps. Maybe someone with factory power steps can post their situation?

So far I’ve been putting more miles on and no problems with anything else and the Carbyte is working perfectly even at speeds below 40 mph the auto stop is eliminated.

Did you look under dash with flash light? Perhaps there’s an OBD splitter and another device like low jack messing with the truck.

I had similar problem with carbyte, it worked great but as soon as i plugged in my scan guage carbyte quit working. I preferred the guage to the dfm delete so sent it back. Our obd2 connection is temperamental at its best.

Often you cannot have 2 different devices connected to the OBDII port and sending and receiving data at the same time. As for the CarByte and the Scan Gauge, suggest you consider the Range DFM delete, it plugs into the connector behind the front drivers wheel directly to the ECM. Does not impact the OBDII port in any way from what I have seen. I can connect devices to the OBDII port and log data while the Range device is connected.

As for the original posters concern about the running boards, he should contact the running board vendor, not the Carbyte vendor. The Carbyte vendor probably knows nothing about running board operation unless they have spent time previously working with other customers that have the running boards and ran into a problem.
