So my check engine light is on, shocker I know... The guy at Advance Auto didn't give me the fault code, but he said that for that specific code, it was very common to need to replace the fuel cap? He said that I may have broken the seal or something like that. He also refused to clear the code, saying that they weren't allowed to do it...

I realize that this a very vague description of my problem, but that's all I have... I will try to run by Auto Zone tomorrow to see if the guy there will actually give me the fault code...

And also, is it common for my truck to use like a quart of oil ever ~2,700miles?

Sorry for the depressant tone of this post, I'm just dishearted in the Tahoe as it sits... It seems like anything that can go wrong, will go wrong with the stupid thing. The Hoe hasn't changed at all for the past 6 months, and it's really irritating. I've been so busy since the passing of my father. And every extra bit of cash I get ends up going into replacement parts, and I'm sick of it... Like right now, I'm going to have to buy new HID bulbs for my fogs, get my oil changed, and probably buy a new gas cap, that alone will be over $100. And I mean, I have the money to fix it, it just gets really annoying after a while.

I feel you on that man. After I had a few things take a dump on me (mainly electrical mods) I went back and made sure that everything on the truck will last in the long run. Meaning high quality everything. Don't know where your HIDs came from but my SpencerHIDs have been higher quality than all my other old kits combined.
As for the gas cap, just order one from Stant online. Will run you no more than $15.

auto zone policy is supposed to not clear codes but some do anyways. Try to get a code. How are you supposed to fix the problem is you dont know where to look. I wouldnt take a AZ word what the problem is, they are no technicians

A lot of the gas cap codes will disappear after 3 thermal cycles and the check

engine light will go off. Give it a couple of days and see what happens.

I doubt it's the gas cap. There is a TSB on the EVAP CVS. I had the gas cap problem too. Turned out it wasn't the gas cap. GM has redesigned the EVAP CVS. It's also very easy to do in the driveway. I installed my own. As for the the oil consumption, there its a TSB on that too. The fix is different for whatever material your engine block is made from. Mine is cast iron so they did an engine scrub and replaced one of the valve covers. Biggest indicator of this problem would be oil pooling up in the intake manifold but the pcv is working properly. Both TSBs that I have mentioned can be found on this forum as both issues have been discussed quite a bit.

very seldom its a bad gas cap unless its been left loose after a fill up. Sheriff is right. After a few Drive cycles (meaning a set of driving conditions which allow a vehicles On-Board Diagnostic system to go through the process of checking all the things that it monitors, 02, evap system, Cats) If the condition that caused the code corrects itself, it will go off. But you have to drive it. Letting the car sit a few days dosent do anything.
