hello, new to the forums and brand new to onstar. My 2005 Yukon comes equipped with it but I don’t plan to subscribe. Is it still possible to use the voice activation/microphone/etc to make phone calls? Is there any else the system can do for me without a subscription?

as far as I am aware without an Onstar subscription that built in mic is worthless.....too bad too...I wanted to use it with my Kenwood DDX394 for Bluetooth calls.

Too bad indeed! A shame to have the hardware without a use for it!

I completely agree, the problem is how they terminate the microphones and the XM antenna....at least with the XM antenna you can break off the outer plastic housing and then plug the antenna directly into a new Sirius/XM tuner. I did not have any shrink tubing at the time so I wrapped the metal part with duct tape to prevent any kind of grounding/arcing issues...when I get back in there to do the rest of the stereo install I will put some nice shrink tubing on it to make it look more professional.

Why not just install the new mic in the spot where the old one was? Running the wiring shouldn't be hard.

i'm sure with the proper adapter on the 05 that you probably could, I can use the factory mic on my 2012 but it sounds like crap and makes it sound like your down a hallway, I use the mic included with my pioneer at the top of the pillar and it sounds 50x better than the stock junk, in fact you wouldn't even know I was on a mic except for the outside noise if I am parked and engine off you cant tell the difference
