Before I pull the trigger on this, I'm hoping someone has done it. I'd like to replace my 3.25 center caps with something nicer but I thought I should ask first.

This is what I have:

This is what my center cap looks like:

They look like they're the same size but the clips are different. Has anyone tried to switch these out?

Haven’t done this with oe wheels but have with aftermarket and no issues. I’d call the vendor to make sure. The oe caps are made that way for a reason.

Those aftermarket caps are a PITA to pry out of the hole they mount in. Those spring steel fingers hate to release their grip. I have tried and got frustrated enough to just use a hammer handle and punch them out from the backside of the wheel and then had to straighten the finger grips to reinstall.

Thanks for your input guys. I went ahead and ordered a set (they're only $25) and we'll see how well they work. I'll update this thread after they arrive. Hopefully, I won't need to remove them very often.

I ordered some knockoffs just like those from China. Mine had gold bowties that I covered with black vinyl cuz the black ones weren't available at the time. Anyway, the silver metallic skin with the emblem matched on all four. But, on two of the caps, the fingers that snap into the groove on the wheel were shorter than the other two. I had to email them back and forth including pictures with measurements quite a few times before they sent me another pair. This was for a custom install so I didn't care which finger length I got, I just needed four of one size.

Why are you calling those knockoffs?

knock·off
/ˈnäkäf/

noun
informal
noun: knock-off; plural noun: knock-offs; noun: knockoff; plural noun: knockoffs
a copy or imitation, especially of an expensive or designer product.
"knockoff merchandise"

The center caps in question are a copy of the factory ones, but a cheaper design.

Isn't that what a knockoff is? Something that's not original?

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “knockoff: A copy that sells for less than the original.”

This is a pic of a wheel "Knock Off". They are called that because they're basically a large winged nut that holds certain (usually older racing style) wheels on. To remove them you'd take a soft hammer (lead) and "knock" them off. What you have are center caps.
