It’s a built in Esim, or at least it was in my 2020 truck. You’re married to AT&T for life. GM and ATT have an exclusive contract is what I was told.

I was paying $25 for an unlimited plan on my own ATT account (not through OnStar).

I have Google Project FI (basically TMobile sold through Google) so I put a router with one of my data only sim cards in the glove box. You could probably do the same.

Not sure how much T-Mobile's connected car service costs, but you find that AT&T ends up being your only option, you could potentially negotiate the monthly price down if you're an AT&T subscriber of any of their services. I'm already an AT&T subscriber for my personal and work phones, and TV streaming service, so I used that to negotiate a lower monthly for in-car wifi service (unlimited data plan, 25% discount).

We went with the AT&T option. was cheap enough doing the longer prepay vs some of the others... but you could find one of the older "free" tmobile hotspots on ebay for $20 last time i checked. and as someone else mentioned put it in the console or something

Also, if you are an AT&T mobile customer you can add your vehicle for $10.00/mo as another shared device on your plan. I have a chevy, jeep, and ram on my plan. You can do the vehicle adds either through AT&T or OnStar in the GM vehicle case. They will coordinate with each other. You need to know your AT&T pin code.

I use a hotpsot in my truck with tmobile, it's powered by usb you can get a hardwired 12v to 5v usb adapter and hide it anywhere, some hook & loop fastener and it can be hidden under the dash and take no space at all. out of sight out of mind. If you have a tmobile data plan already you can just put the sim in and go there like $40 on ebay
the linkzone has pretty good reviews I have had mine running 24/7 for over 2 years I think I had to reboot it maybe twice, from the center console the signal will reach about 40 feet or so.
