I feel like I've officially paid my dues as an NBS owner and changed out my knock sensors this weekend. Quite the feeling of accomplishment.

I didn't find huge pools of water, or mountains of dirt like I've seen around here, but there was some moisture in the bank that was throwing the code. The sensor was pretty corroded. The other sensor looked to be perfectly fine, but I changed it as well...along with the harness, of course. I also replaced the intake manifold gaskets, and the throttle body gasket as well.

I completely sealed each rubber boot with RTV. There's no way any moisture can get in there now, lol.

The job wasn't without a few problems, however. Although I had no problems getting the fuel lines off, I had the damnedest time getting the coolant lines off of the alternator side of the throttle body. The tight clearance made this task nearly impossible.

I bought the truck from a guy who lived up in the mountains, and I think a squirrel decided to store his stash of nuts on top of the intake manifold. (poor squirrel must be pissed off right now, not being able to find his food stash) What I SHOULD have done was pull all of the nuts off of the intake manifold BEFORE removing it. Big mistake. While removing the manifold, all of the nuts fell off, and one fell into the engine. Turned out to be not that big of a deal...I just grabbed about a 1' long section of 1/2" pvc that I had left over from my landscaping project, taped it to my shop vac, and sucked that little nut right out of the engine.

Other than that, everything went super smooth. I got it all buttoned up, and she fired up right away. Had about 12 codes, though. I neglected to disconnect the battery, so every time I turned the key to shift it into or out of neutral (to push it in or out of the garage) I imagine that all of the disconnected sensors registered some kind of code.

Cleared the codes...we'll see if any come back tonight when I drive out to the airport to pick up my GF.

...oh, and I got everything except the harness from Rock Auto. Got the harness from a Chevy Dealer on eBay. Got the entire job done for about $150. I figured I saved at least $350 by doing it myself.
