I have a 2011 Tahoe brought new. Right now it's at 14000 miles. When should I change my brake fluid or how often. Thanks.

doug is in a mood again. LOL!

I recommend that waiting that long is a mistake. Hopefully your manual tells you when but if not I recommend every 50k-60k miles. Brake fluid is hygroscopic and therefore absorbs moisture. That is why if you use some from a can of brake fluid it is important to recap it tight. As it vents in the brake system it will absorb moisture and will lose it's capability to fight against heat and it's boiling point will lower. As it darkens it is absorbing moisture. Fresher fluid allows all components that it touches in the brake system to work better and avoid the scenario that doug told you about.

By the way bigrhino, your heading for your post spells the word "brake" wrong as in break and then in you question you spell it right.

C'mon man!

I've been refreshing my brake fluid every other oil change since day one. I use a turkey baster and take out the old fluid in the reservoir and put the new in. 171k miles and haven't had any issues ever.

I do the same, then a standard brake bleed to get the old out of the lines. it does contaminate the fresh in the reservoir some, Also do this with my power steering fluid.
