Chattering noise : possible diff problem?

So more recently, I've been noticing a noise, sounds like some sort of chatter, only when taking off from a dead stop, it only lasts about 3 seconds and then all sounds well again, its hard to judge, but it does sound like its coming from the rear-end. My intial thought was the rear diff is out of adjustment and/or going bad. When I have time, I might take a look and inspect some things. Is there anything else that would make such a chatter? Any thoughts? Thanks.

Sound idea to inspecet things. I would say pull the cover and see what is going on in the diff.

Do you know what kind of diff you have?
