i have a 2005 chevy tahoe. i know how to install the head unit, but the problem is that i want to keep my chimes and alerts. i dont want to spend 140 on a wiring harness either. ive noticed that the chimes are played through the speakers on my tahoe.

ive seen cheap wiring harness at walmart that says its compatible with my vehicle for 9.99 and im wondering will this harness enable my system to play the chimes through the speakers ? ive seen a wiring harness online for 49.99 that has a little box that plays the chimes which is stored inside of the dash after the install is complete, and im wondering will this play the chimes through the box or through the speakers or both ?

i dont want to splice/cut no wires, i want the cheapest alternative to keep the chimes through my speakers. so will the cheap simple harness allow chimes to be played through the speakers and provide the hook up wires or do i need the harness with the speaker box ?

the 9.99 one will work, but get ready for some strange ecm codes, no chimes, and lost alerts (low fuel, oil level, etc), and also finding a switched power source for the aftermarket deck.

out of all i have used (scosche, metra, pac, peripheral, axxess), none of the aftermarket interfaces keep the oem chimes through the speaker. they all have their own chime module that mimics the factory tones.

just make sure it's the right module for your truck's trim/feature level (non-bose, bose, premium bose, onstar, etc.). the online seller may be right with compatibility, but verify on the manufacturer's website.

if you have steering wheel controls and want to keep them, you will need an additional module.

I agree, its going to be hard to not spend money on that one. I had to buy the PAC OS4 that comes with a little box for the chimes. I found it for 95 bucks on Ebay for my 2008 Yukon. From experience I have learned to save and get whats required instead of spending money over and over to get it fixed.

Good luck buddy.
