As the title states, check out page 70 in the January 2013 edition of Petersen's 4 Wheel and Off-Road! There is one slick Tahoe that is, in my humble opinion, one of the coolest 2-doors ever!

It's got a 489 cid big-block, manual tranny, dual transfers, Dana 60 front, 14 bolt rear, and riding on 37's!

Very, very nice.... If only it was diesel! :D

I knew that Tahoe looked familiar:

it has dual transfer cases? what is the point of that?

I didn't read the article, but IIRC he set up his dual transfer cases so he can select 4x4, Rear Wheel or Front Wheel Drive.

It also helps if you want to run a really low crawl rate.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'm running out the door and didn't have a chance to go through the article.

Dual transfer cases is very popular in the serious rock-crawling segment. The main benefit is to allow extremely low gearing for very controlled, low-speed crawling.

One transfer case output goes into the second. So if the front transfer case is in low, when you put the rear transfer case in low, you are doubling your gear ratios.

From Off Road Design:

"Adding lower transfer case gearing gives you huge improvements in off road control and torque without affecting your highway gear ratios (4.10's with 37-38" tires can work well). Adding a gearbox also allows you to run in your normal 2:1 reduction or in super low 4:1 reduction for best performance in any situation. "

Dear God, suddenly my truck looks pretty damned hideous...

And I had no idea these things came with a stick option. Anyone done any conversions? Curious for when the inevitable auto tranny failure occurs.
