Thanks for the replies everyone. I’m going to mess with this more today. The front seat is set for my 5’2” wife in the picture. We’re going to swap sides with the car seats, as I (6’3”) rarely ride as a passenger. We never use the 3rd row seats anyway, so laying the 2nd row further back isn’t an issue. It looks like in the picture the toddler seat (Britax) could benefit from the seat being reclined more. I played with the recline on the infant seat yesterday, but the base catches below where it would get any benefit. If we move it to the passenger side the infant seat will work fine behind my wife. Idk, Again I’ll play with it more today and let you know. Thanks for the replies!
You just have to live with it in the passenger side. The only thing you can do. I’ve had a few suvs and they all had this issue.

Due to this issue, and the baby getting too heavy to carry this thing around, we’d switch out of these carriers around 3 months old. We’d switch to a convertible child seat. They are much more comfortable for the baby and they are much more friendly with the front seats.

Here’s our two favorites to move the baby into:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B076...dian+diono&dpPl=1&dpID=51mRJJC7xWL&ref=plSrch

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00ISCPJM6/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1526831290&sr=8-1&keywords=peg+perego+convertible+car+seat&dpPl=1&dpID=41ZlFgdkW+L&ref=plSrch

The only downside is you can’t carry your baby around in the seat. Which isn’t that good for them anyways. And after only a few months they get too heavy to lug around in, anyways.

I can vouch for the Diono. We have 3 of them and love them. Super comfortable for kids, and very narrow/small so they don’t take up much room. And most importantly, their one of the safest seats on the market. Get em in one of those as soon as weight/height allows. Consumer Reports has it ranked in the top too.

Put the car seat in the middle. Or swap the sides the kids are sitting on and you do all the driving. I’m 6’4” and my wife is 5’5”. We could easily put a forward facing seat like the one you have for your 2.5 year old behind the driver seat and the rear facing seat in either the middle or the passenger side.

Utilize the third row. Maybe easy for me to say having a Yukon XL, but we used the third row in my LR3 for years and it’s not nearly as big.

I’m convinced that child car seats aren’t designed to be used in cars, because they fit like hell in every car we’ve ever owned. We have 4 boys and we’ve always managed to make it work; My wife will NEVER cut corners on a child seat, no rule bending, strictly by the book. You’ll figure it out.

^^From looking at the pic OP posted, there’s no middle seat to put the carrier in.

Yeah, we have the captain chairs in the second row. Seemed like a great idea when only 1 kid was in the picture! We swapped sides with car seats and the infant carrier is fine behind the passenger seat when set for my wife. The toddler seat is pretty tight behind my seat setting, but it’ll work for now. We went ahead and ordered the Diono seat as well. It was rated as high or better then the Britax, so the wife approved and should give us a little more room. I envision the words “quit kicking the back of the seat” becoming quite common! Thanks for the help and letting me vent. I do have a little more appreciation for mini vans that have more space then SUV’s now.

I have twin 2 yo and a 5 year old so I feel you pain. I did the car seat dance with my yukon xl. Would definitely recommend getting a different car seat. Britax are huge and we got a lot more room once we got rid of them. Do some research online to find small footprint car seats and remember the rear facing drama doesn’t last for much long.

I'm 6'4", have a 1 and 4 year old, fought the same thing. Wife previously drove a Terrain before our Tahoe, had to put the big car seat behind her. It's a pia, we have the big, NASCAR/NASA car seats too. It gets easier when you can get them forward facing, but we just dealt with it.

put the baby seat behind the passenger. and put the other seat behind the driver.

also the Captains chairs will come in handy when and if anyone has to go to the 3rd row. since there is NO WAY to flip the middle seats forward for rear access with car seats.

Installed the Diono seat tonight and swapped sides. Much better. The picture is with the driver’s seat set for myself. I can see we’ll be investing in another Diono in a few months when we move out of the carrier. Thanks again for the help!
