Child Seats in Third Row

Have/do any of you guys put a child seat in your third row? Boosters, not baby carriers.

I have a 17 burb with second row captains, which kind of sucks sometimes.

Booster yes. Occasionally if the other 5 seats are taken.

I have two kids, 4 and 5, and both of their boosters require latch.

We are taking a trip from Alabama to New Mexico soon with my parents riding with us. I’m trying to figure how to place people. I don’t really want to stuff my parents in the third row, or any adult for that matter, for that long of a trip. It would be great if I could put the kids back there. Maybe I’ll pick up some boosters that don’t ‘require’ latch to be used like the ones I have. But still I’m concerned about the safety back there.

The third row seats look like jump seats. Thin and flimsy. I can’t imagine they hold up well in the event of an accident, but that could be my paranoia speaking...

I have two kids (9 and 7) in booster seats (with out the back support) in the third row of my Suburban and I do not ever worry about the seats being unsafe.
I hope that your two (4 and 5) are still in a full booster seat with a back. They can be secured using only the seat belt.

Yup they are both in these (Britax Pinnacle G1), hence why I said they REQUIRE LATCH. You cannot use these seats any other way.

Are you sure that they require latch?
I forget which Britax we have but the 4 that we've used all would work with seatbelts.
I think the belt slides behind the those red pieces, basically only using the lap belt then you tether the back.

Yeah they do require, unfortunately. There isn’t anywhere for the seatbelt to be used to secure the seat. When you turn it into a booster for an older kid, they use the seatbelt instead of the harness but the seat is still required to be secured using latch. I’ve been up and down the instructions..

I’m just going to buy different boosters so I can stick my kids in the third row instead of my parents on the long trip.

Look on the side of it, by those red pieces.
The one they sell on Amazon can be used that way.
I'm not trying to be a dick but the first 2 seats I used in my Jeep chose to use the belts instead of the latch and they were both Britax. No need to spend money if you don't have to.

Not to just jump in on this.. but I am.. I've had my share of Britax seats over the years and I've never seen one solely dedicated to only using LATCH so this made me curious. From the Britax website is shows a seatbelt being used in a video: https://us.britax.com/pinnacle-clicktight-booster-seats/ (scroll down a bit and then click on "ClickTight Installation System"). A little further down it says it "offers an easy and safe way to install your child’s car seat without the weight, seat or belt limits of LATCH."

Also, it looks like page 10 of the manual, found at the bottom of the Britax website, shows how to install the child seat using the vehicles lap-shoulder belt.

Hope this helps, and definitely give it another go before you buy more seats!
