Chilton Repair manual? Yes or no?

Is this a good repair manual to buy for the Tahoes/Yukon's? I currently have an online subscription to ALLDATAdiy, and I personally think it sucks @$$.

I would have to agree with you, the information that ALLDATA provides is kind of a joke, I have used this manual and it isn't bad.

Thank you! I appreciate it! I'm old fashioned though, I like to have a book to hold in my hand, where I can highlight stuff, ear mark pages, etc... I'd rather get a book dirty, then my laptop if I'm working on the yukon and reading about how not to **** up anything else, lol.

Ha, yea I gotcha. Having a chilton never hurts unless your girl uses it to beat ya because you're spending too much time and money on your truck and you don't spend enough time with the family and you don't pay any attention to her and you forget her birthday... woops. What were we talking about again?

It depends on the type of work you are going to do.

I personally always buy shop manuals for my vehicles (the same ones dealers have). They are more expensive, but the information provided is leagues ahead of Chilton. As an example, I just found a complete OBS set (4 volumes) on ebay and bought it in paperback, really impressive stuff...it was brand new too, so i'm assuming they will have one for your rig as well.

I used to use Chilton but found I always needed a bit more information then the manual had.

IMO Chiltons is most always a bit vague on some things. I believe it's because they assume that there are certain repairs that the DIY'er should not do. Look on ebay for the factory manuals. I have bought several for different vehicles I own. They tend to be pricey but they are way more detailed escpecially for troubleshooting and pin-point testing.

Thanks guys! I found some online before, but it wasn't a complete set. I would definitely like to get a set of the shop manuals. I was just thinking that for the time being a $20 Chilton manual might be enough to hopefully get me by until I can find a complete, reasonably priced shop manual online.

You should be able to find newly printed - but it will run $75+ (mine was around $125).

Personally I would save your money on Chilton and invest it towards the shop manual...just keep searching!!
