the auto store could not tell me what the code means but after looking it up i guess its catalyst would it be o2 sensor or catalytic converters ?
2007 ls tahoe with 65,000 mi any one know if i try the 02 sensor and its not it will it be damaged by the bad cat?or what else should i look for

More than likely a bad O2 sensor. If you replace it, it will not damage the catilytic converter. If the new sensor works, buy another one and replace the opposite side at the same time, if you can afford it. If it was a bad catilytic converter, you should see gold shiny flakes on the back of your truck or in the end of the tailpipe, indicating the catalyst came apart.

I had a similar code a year or two ago regarding one of the (4) O2 sensors on my 05 Silverado. Initially I thought I had a bad Sensor too but after I went under the truck, I noticed something had come up off the road and cut the wires to one of the O2 sensors. I repaired that cut with butt connectors and heat shrink and problem solved. That was at about 150K miles and I am near 180K now.

Just saying, double check for wiring damage.
