I have heard the factory air box is pretty good with a good or clean filter. Is there much of a benefit from replacing the pipe from the throttle body to the box? On that line of thinking, has anybody modified a cheap ebay CAI unit to attach the stock box to the throttle body, basically just using the pipe and union?

I like the idea of having the unrestricted intake tube between the stock filter box (which works well with both stock & performance setups) and the TB BUT I definitely wouldn't pay over $100 for said tube, especially on a bone stock engine. If anything I would get 1 of those $30 eBay knockoffs but i couldn't justify spending more than that for what little gain.

I just installed a K&N in my 2015 Tahoe. I thought something was wrong with my install when I took it for a ride with my wife that evening. You can really hear the growl when you accelerate. My wife was like "This is supposed to be a luxury vehicle!". So needless to say, she didn't like it very much. I just turned to her and made the Tim the Tool Man sound and that was the end of that! I got used to it quickly and I ended up liking the growling noise. It is supposed to provide additional horsepower and a little better mileage due to the nature of feeding the engine more air when needed but I would think it is nominal.

But it is my 2nd mod behind the LED foglights and was a fun little project since everything fit perfectly.

Now on to research a leveling kit!

Does your K&N run an oiled or dry filter?
