I recently changed my oil for the first time in my 03 Tahoe. Used Amsoil Signature and a 10,000 mile Purolator filter from Advance. Slight knock at Cold start that goes away after a block or two of driving. Wasn't there before. Oil filter valve? Thanks!

I wouldnt guess i would try a new one immediately. If it wasnt their before for sure.If not fixed put a mechanincal oil pressure gauge on it when cold untill the knock goes away.Piston slap is normal in alot of these cold but if you didnt have it before thats a problem.Does you oil pressure gauge read low or is it at nomral range .

Would definitely try a different brand of filter also - but its yours not mine.
Definitely. It's a Purolator. What was on it was a K&N. I'm going to buy a K&N and switch it out tomorrow even though I think the Purolator is a better filter. Hopefully that's the end of it. I was trying to get some input as to how a filter would cause my issue. The differences etc.. I've only noticed it the last few days, but it may have done it before. I just got it so there has been a lot of starting and running throughout the days getting it running right. I may have never left it long enough to bleed down?

I hate to say it but if the filter was bad it would only take a couple of seconds for the noise to go away-just like if its new and first start it.Sorry but sounds like piston slap and thats a tear down if you want that fixed. But anythings possible good luck.

Piston slap doesn't concern me at all. Doesn't hurt anything. I didn't notice it before, bit I was starting it alot. It did sit overnight though and it goes away so quickly I may not have noticed or didn't start moving moving so no revs and didn't hear it The oil filter could have an internal flaw possibly though. Just takes a few minutes to spin on another. I'm doing it today. I'll let you know if it fixes it. Thanks man!

Piston slap is the main attraction of LS engines. They are famous for it. Its just annoying, doesnt hurt anything and thats why these engines get 300k, 400k+ miles on them easily.
