Hi. I have a 2020 Tahoe and had a recent small front end collision that my daughter had in stop and go traffic. I ended up paying out-of-pocket for the bumper cover and crash bar. Other than that the car was great unfortunately the guy wanted to charge me 3500 to reset the front end collision system. I just took the car since I didn’t see any warning signs. But of course now I have the light that saysService front and collision. Does anyone know how to reset the system oneself? Can I just disconnect the battery and reconnected? Any help would be really appreciated

Was this a body shop that wanted to charge you- how much, $3,500 or $35.00? I’m confused. Do you really think he was just going to disconnect the battery for a few minutes either way?

the guy that did the collision repair and paint was some classic car restorer who did it as a favor for my brother. He is not familiar AT ALL with the collision systems. And a lot of small shops don’t have the equipment to reset and tune the sensors so they farm it out to techs that will come to the shop and do the work. So the **** that he contacted gave him a price of 3500.00 to do it . When I took the car on a test spin and no warning lights were present so I left thinking it was ok. But after a few days all the idiot lights are on. Wondering if disconnecting battery or a tech 2 would reset it

Tech2 won’t work at all on a 2020. They changed the diagnostic equipment completely to a different system, pretty sure that happened in 2015. And I can pretty much guarantee disconnecting the battery won’t do it. I’m thinking it might be the black box that needs reset, which records a continuous loop until an accident triggers it at which time it records a few seconds before and a few seconds after. This data can only be retrieved by specialized equipment that’s licensed by GM and from what I hear the equipment costs like $30k and the data can only be retrieved by GM or possibly your insurance company via a subpoena or some shit like that. I would call a body shop and ask questions. I take it you didn’t notify your insurance ?

if no airbags deployed then the dealer can do it, not sure what they will charge but probably not $3500, the camera or radar module is no longer lined up properly and needs to be re-aligned, same way your wheels have to be aligned only it's electronic and in order for it to operate properly it has to be able to see. every time you start the vehicle it self checks a bunch of things when something isn't correct you get a error.

thanks so much. You are a fountain of information .i was able to use my knock off tech 2 successfully on a 2011 Tahoe and 2007 Corvette. No I didn’t go thru insurance cause I was afraid of fraud. It was 3600. For the repair. The body guy wanted s to take it to Chevy dealer and say it is defective and not admit it was an accident. I told him not to of course but now having second thoughts lol. I didn’t want to get caught in a lie because I have such a great relationship with them

all those "extra" bells and whistles can be costly, like the hud, lane keep assist, automatic braking, automatic cruise control etc all depend on sensors and the sensors have to be in alignment, when you get in even a minor fender bender is messes it all up

Yep the more complicated the vehicles become, the more maintenance and repairs cost. And now you can’t even work on most of it without a 100k diagnostic machine. Even the new AC is expensive as hell to work on if it requires new refrigerant. My buddy who owns a body shop says his new ac machine cost hit about $20k so he can recharge systems, and the refrigerant itself costs like $400-500 per vehicle.
